Congratulations to Johanna for doing nothing

May 22, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 8.00.24 am

We are all a bit jealous of you here Johanna. Sure you did a fantastic job in this H&R Block Commercial last year. But now you are getting a big $$$ payment just because people really like the commercial. I suppose we can get over our jealousy and just say congratulations. We also have to admit that you did a great job in the first commercial and that is part of the reason it has been renewed. So forgive us for the headline, you didn’t exactly do nothing, perhaps nothing new is more accurate?

For anyone else who is curious about how this works, when Johanna was originally paid for her role in this H&R Block commercial it included 12 months permission to use her image. Now, because the commercial has been successful, they want to extend it for another 4 months and expand it to a print campaign. Those additional rights are negotiated between MCTV and the production company and end up with a healthy payment for Johanna (and some commission for us too of course)

Commercials from the last few weeks

May 21, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

There has been so much going on with Film and TV series lately, we haven’t mentioned much about TV commercials we have been doing lately. This is a selection of the ones that we have been working on over the past few weeks. We’ve had dozens of kids on the KFC commercial, similar numbers on the McDonalds Ad. Loads of people on Project ECO and as you can see, many many more.

Hong Kong film trilogy Smoke Screen filming in Sydney

May 16, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

hongkong

Well done Katie, Louise, Trudi, An and Frankie for landing supporting actor roles on Smoke Screen.

Smoke Screen is a full length feature filming in Sydney over the next four weeks that’s destined for cinema screens in Hong Kong. We expect they will need many more people over the coming four weeks so there could be some great opportunities for MCTV actors.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smoke Screen (also known as Integrity) is an anti-corruption drama will star Sean Lau (Overheard series), Nick Cheung (Unbeatable) and Karena Lam (Zinnia Flower). Apparently it is the first part of an intended trilogy so there’s more to look forward to from this stable.

Animal Logic to make Peter Rabbit 2 in Sydney

May 14, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Peter-Hooray

The amazing animation team behind Peter Rabbit have been given the go ahead for Peter Rabbit 2. Theres already a release date set for February 7 2020 which means filming will probably start late this year / early 2019. It’s too early to say if there will be live action scenes again, but with the success of the first movie (already $US326.7 million dollars) I expect they will follow their winning formula. Part of that winning formula included around 60 MCTV featured and background actors so here’s hoping for similar opportunities for the sequel.

Green light for new feature Babyteeth

May 9, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

180502-Ben-Mendelsohn-Essie-Davis

Babyteeth is a bittersweet comedy that is based on a play which was performed at the Belvoir theatre in 2012. The play centres around Milla, a fourteen year old girl who is going through repeat treatment for cancer. Despite the seriousness of this situation throughout, the play is very funny was many parts. The play explored the way human beings cope with grief and deal with life.

Ben Mendelsohn and Essie Davis will be playing the parents of Milla so we will be expecting some outstanding performances. The original play only had seven actors but often screen adaptations have more supporting roles due to the greater flexibility that film offers. We can’t wait to see this one either way.

Palm Beach Movie

Pre production shooting has commenced for the new big budget local film called Palm Beach. Starring big names like Sam Neill, Bryan Brown and Gretta Scacchi. We sent the first of our actors to set on Monday and we are expecting many more opportunities for featured and background actors to support this great cast over the coming months.

Get ready for more blockbusters to film in Sydney

May 7, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

countdown

The most spectacular news from last week is the announcement from the Turnbull government that they will be boosting the location offset for filming in Australia. The location offset is a special tax incentive given to film productions (typically the big blockbusters like Alien Covenant, Peter Rabbit etc.) that gives them an incentive to move production form their home region to Australia. Productions will need to compete for the boosted funds, but there’s no doubt this will mean more blockbusters will be filming in Sydney soon. Well done to everyone who lobbied hard for this and ultimately to our politicians for approving such a scheme. The scheme is expected to deliver around $800 Million dollars to the local economy over 4 years.

Heartbreak High flashback

HBH-heartbreak-high-9439170-1024-768

With Channel Ten pulling Heartbreak High out of the archives for streaming it brings back many fond memories for us here at MCTV. One of the best is how Tasneem Roc started out landing a small part with MCTV and went on to land a major role (Thania Saya) in Heartbreak High.

There’s a great interview on the Heartbreak High website where Tasneem explains:

“I was sent along by my agent (MCTV) for the role of Mariel, a waitress in a scene with Drazic. The director on the episode (Jess Hobbs) asked me if I was being auditioned for any main roles. I was then asked back to audition for the role of Thania and it got down to me and two other girls, and I got the part – yay!”

Of course it didn’t stop there and Tasneem has gone on to perform in a range of other productions such as Head Start, East West 101, Kath and Kimderella and Reef Doctor.

Then there was Katherine Hicks. Katherine only made an appearance in the last nine episodes of the show, but her character, Tess sure made an impact. MCTV got Katherine her first role when she was 16yrs old on Heartbreak High, she has gone on to do Rescue Special Ops, Devils Dust and Winners & Losers

Over the years we had loads of people performing in various capacities on Heartbreak High. We recently received a lovely Facebook comment from Erin Wise who was reminiscing about her time on Heartbreak high (see below).

Here at MCTV we are very proud to have played such an important role for Heartbreak High and all the other productions we work on each week. It’s a great reminder of how getting a small role on a production can lead to much bigger things. We see it here at MCTV all the time.

Go-sees for Foxtel’s Lambs of God have started

May 1, 2018/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Lamb of God - Atonement

A bunch of MCTV actors went to go-sees for Foxtel’s new series Lambs of God. The go-sees are a great opportunity for MCTV to show off talent to a new production in the hopes that they might be selected for a major role.

Once the production get’s started, there are usually further roles for background actors and other featured parts that don’t require a go-see.

We are all looking forward to Lambs of God here at MCTV. From the feedback we have received here it sounds like the book is really worth the read.

I signed up with MCTV yesterday and they applied me for 5 jobs already, one of which was successful. So excited to be back in business after long break. Looking forward working with you guys!

Dragana Gambiroza-Lazic

I’ve been with MCTV for a few years now and found them wonderful. I’ve had a much better experience than with my last agency and am particularly impressed by their management of my daughter through Joey’s

Elizabeth Bouris

Within my first month, I’ve been considered 3 times, got an audition for a TVC, and then a call back. And even a job offer with a leading Bank.
I signed my children with the agency & while I was at the office, Paul gave us a casting for the kids the same afternoon.

M.C.T.V has been very good to me for over three years now! I do appreciate their efforts in finding me work in four major motion pictures and other jobs
