More Sydney Greats

February 11, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

The Oscar nominations reminded us of so many big Hollywood productions we have been lucky enough to be a part of over the last 30+ years. Buzzfeed have compiled a great list with some cool images of sets and Sydney landmarks given the Hollywood treatment. The list includes the following movies filmed in Sydney, which all include talent from MCTV – ‘Superman Returns’, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, ‘Unbroken’, ‘The Matrix’, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, ‘The Invisible Man and Mission Impossible 2’.

The list keeps getting longer with movies like ‘Thor Love and Thunder’ and ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ soon to be released. Yet to be filmed ‘Furiosa’ promises to be a huge boost to Sydney in 2022.

‘All That I Am’ to be filmed in Sydney

February 9, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

New movie ‘All That I Am’ is set to be filmed in Sydney and Berlin later this year. Eliza Scanlen, Evan Rachel Wood, Vanessa Redgrave and Rufus Sewell are all reported as having major roles (Variety).

The story is based on the award winning book of the same name (by Aussie author Anna Funder) and follows four German-Jewish pacifists who flee to London when Hitler comes to power.

Sixty years after fleeing the Nazis, remaining survivor of the group, Ruth Wesemann (Vanessa Redgrave), is living in Sydney. One day she receives a package containing the memoirs of her old friend Ernst Toller that bring back memories of how they smuggled classified documents from Nazi Hermann Goering’s office into Britain.

The production is the first feature film for Australian Director, Kate Dennis. Her previous directing credits include The Handmaid’s Tale, Offspring, Rake, Suits and GLOW.

Can’t wait for this to start, more to come.

Re-Deal for Poker Face

February 8, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Russell Crowe’s multimillion dollar action flick ‘Poker Face‘ is set to return to Sydney soon, according to The Daily Mail.

The action-thriller had to stop production in Sydney last year due to COVID. The movie has a huge cast including Crowe, Elsa Pataky, Liam Hemsworth and rapper RZA. Sydney will stand in for Miami in the movie with an epic car chase scene through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel yet to be filmed according to media reports.

The restart is great news for the local industry and for MCTV extras – some of whom already shot scenes year.

Local Productions Full Stream Ahead!

January 29, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

The content directors of 3 major streamers (Stan, Netflix and Amazon) have revealed their support for local production in 2022 to IF Magazine. This is great news, as according to the Australian Financial Review Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video spent $630 million on Australian content in the 2021 financial year.

All agreed that the local industry has shown great resilience and strength, continuing to grow despite the pandemic. Que Minh Luu (Netflix Director of Local Originals) said “Everyone has had a really rough time in 2021; we’re all emerging from our own version of it being tough. But the takeaway for me is that Australia is a really great place to shoot in.”

They also agree that local content generation is important, including international co-productions. Stan chief content officer Cailah Scobie said “At Stan, we have doubled our Originals slate of Australian commissioned content from the previous financial year, and it is testament to the strength of Australian IP and screen creatives, that this work is finding its way on to Stan screens as well as being picked up by the international market.”

Amazon Prime Video head of content for Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, Tyler Bern expressed great enthusiasm for the year ahead:

“The Australian production industry is thriving and it’s a really exciting time to be an Aussie content maker. Amazon Prime Video will be filming three Australian scripted TV originals in 2022 – Class of ’07, produced by Matchbox; Deadloch, produced by Guesswork; and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, produced by Made up Stories. We are also announcing additional scripted Australian projects soon. “

MCTV is also looking forward to being involved in more great Aussie projects in 2022. To find out more and be a part of it, click here.

The series, which is based on Karin Slaughter’s book of the same name, asks the question; how well do we really know the people closest to us, and do we know what they’re capable of doing?

Full plot details and more first-look photos can be found here.

We can’t wait to see this one which will be released locally and internationally on Netflix – well done to everyone involved.

More Furiosa Rumours

January 23, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Speculation is rising that one of the biggest movies to ever be made in Australia is about to hit NSW. The New Daily is reporting that ‘Furiosa’ is close to production with news that entire caravan parks, Airbnbs and hotels have been visited by location producers and many have been booked in preparation.

Western Sydney was also been named as a location for the project, as happened with the last Mad Max instalment, Fury Road.

The article reports shooting is likely to get underway mid-March to June this year, however with the uncertainty of COVID-19 there may be further delays.

Look forward to more announcements soon…

Dragana Gambiroza-Lazic

I’ve been with MCTV for a few years now and found them wonderful. I’ve had a much better experience than with my last agency and am particularly impressed by their management of my daughter through Joey’s

Elizabeth Bouris

Within my first month, I’ve been considered 3 times, got an audition for a TVC, and then a call back. And even a job offer with a leading Bank.
I signed my children with the agency & while I was at the office, Paul gave us a casting for the kids the same afternoon.
