Benjamin Millipied’s long awaited reimagining of the classic love story ‘Carmen’ is almost here. Sony Pictures Classics has announced the movie will open in limited theatrical release on April 21 in the US.
The movie was shot in NSW back in 2021 and stars Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera.
Following the brutal murder of her mother in Mexico, Carmen (Barrera) survives a terrifying and dangerous illegal border crossing into the US. Patrolling the border is Aidan (Mescal), a former marine, who disagrees with the extreme violence of his patrol partner, resulting in a deadly standoff. Carmen and Aidan are then forced to flee, making their way north towards Los Angeles, hoping their newfound love can outrun the police.
Congratulations to the 11 MCTV members who worked on this project. Some long hours and all night shoots involved, so well done to everyone! Looking forward to the Australian release.
