Blood Red Sky follows a motley crew of volunteer firefighters and courageous locals who must overcome their personal and political differences when a bushfire threatens their picturesque country town. It’s due to shoot later this year in NSW and QLD.
According to IF magazine 25 percent of the profits will go to the rural fire service in NSW, Victoria and QLD.
Our accounting team just completed the numbers for 2019 and found that an outstanding 1780 people were paid by MCTV for Film and TV work in 2019. This comfortably smashes last years figure of 1565 so a big congratulations to our booking team for such a great result.
The accounts team deserve congratulations too for processing and managing payments to such a large number of people. So many people that is rivals the employee count of some of Australia’s largest corporations.
The outlook for 2020 is looking very good too. We have 3 major films shooting here and several TV series already booked in and it has been a busy January so far.
Amazon Studios is backing a Packed to the Rafters reboot with many of the original cast members. The original series went for 6 seasons and MCTV had hundreds of people in each of those seasons. If you’ve been thinking about getting involved as a Film and TV Extra, 2020 is looking like it’s going to be a great year for the industry.
If you’ve been following our posts you already know that there are two major films to be shot at Fox Studios in Sydney in 2020. We just had word of a third that will be shooting around Sydney. MCTV normally places around 350 people or more on these major films so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. But you will have to be on our books before the productions start to maximise your chances to be involved.
You probably saw these quirky commercials over winter. You can hardly see our extras in this commercial which is pretty rare. It’s a good example of just how many people are needed to make scenes work and how easy it is to be a background extra. It’s a pretty good day when you get paid to spend your spare time sitting on a comfy seat looking interested.
113 MCTV people worked on the new Helen Reddy biopic to be release May 2020 (click through for teaser trailer). A great story of a young Aussie woman who fights here way to the top against the odds. A great achievement for Helen Reddy and for Aussie director director Unjoo Moon. It’s also great to see the investment in this film from the Australian Women’s Weekly.
You might have seen this commercial already, I suspect there is an element of truth to it. You can see our very own Michael and Jennifer as part of the parents and carers about to meet the rabble as they leave school. Michael was lucky enough to make it into the final cut. Many others including Jennifer were not so recognisable. Of course, you still get paid as a background actor even if they don’t use you in the final shot so everyone is a winner at the end of the day.

281 MCTV people appeared in The Commons (click through for trailer) which is a big budget series from Stan that stars Joanne Frogatt (Downton Abbey). Seeing the trailer mentioning category 5 storms in Sydney is a little spooky given the weather we have recently seen around here. The trailer looks very sharp and the issues it explores could not be more relevant today.
