MCTV Extras in Aldi photo frame

Our background extras are involved in all sorts of fun and interesting projects. There are film clips, video games, in store activations, audience gigs and much much more. This commercial would have ben a fun one, you first see our MCTV people in the comically large photo frame that runs around the edge of the room and then just their legs as they trundle their way down the stairs. A whole lot of fun and a healthy pay cheque to go with it. About a week’s pay for just one day.

Mad martial arts skills on the set of Shang-Chi

Simu Liu, the star of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been showing off some awesome martial arts skills on the set last week. Filming is continuing here in Sydney with one of the other stars Michelle Yeoh spotted while she was having a break from production. And to give fans a taste of what’s to come, Marvel is releasing a comic miniseries to reveal mysteries about the character’s past.

Back to the Rafters resumes filming

Fans of the beloved series Packed to the Rafters can rejoice because filming of the reboot Back to the Rafters has resumed filming in Sydney. We’ve already had almost 60 MCTV people on set during February and March and production was only in the early stages when COVID hit. That means there’s a good chance of many more opportunities for background roles and bit parts in the coming months. After the recent announcements we now have 4 tv series shooting parallel here in Sydney so we expect a busy end to the year.

Production starts on SBS series The Unusual Suspects

Production is really ramping up in Sydney. The new series Bump just started, we are still shooting Wakefield and now The Unusual Suspects has started production. We also have the film Puff and Three Thousand Years of Longing starting filming really soon.

“The Unusual Suspects is a female friendship story about a group of women from different walks of life wrapped up in a wildly entertaining heist caper with an important message at its heart.” It’s from the same people behind Academy Award nominated film Lion.

New Stan series Bump shooting in Sydney

A new 10 episode series has started filming in Sydney and has already provided opportunities for dozens of MCTV people. Filming has only just started but these series usually film over several months. Bump is from the team behind Love My Way and The Secret Life of Us.

“The series centres around Oly, an ambitious and high-achieving teenage girl who has a surprise baby; and the complications that ensue for two families.”

“Bump is a sharply funny and fast-paced relationship drama which explores the unplanned and life-changing consequences of the impulsive moments in life. Set and being filmed in inner Sydney, the Stan Original Series stars Claudia Karvan.”

Recent TV Commercials and Print Campaigns

The new COVID-Safe guidelines have been in place since the end of May and the industry is adapting really well. It has even created opportunities for local production companies to do remote shoots for foreign customers. One thing that hasn’t changed is that big brands still have to advertise their products and services and so we have started to see more and more TV and print campaigns coming back. This is a selection of the brands we have worked with over the past month alone.

Start date for Thor Love and Thunder confirmed

Natalie Portman has just confirmed the start date for the next Marvel movie to shoot in Sydney. Thor Love and Thunder was due to start this year but has been pushed into the new year because of the COVD shutdown. That’s great news though because preproduction and casting will likely be happening in the September Quarter of 2020 which is just around the corner. MCTV normally has at least 300 background extras on blockbusters like this so if you want a chance at a role in this or any of the other productions coming up you will need to be registered and hav your photo shoot before casting begins. Penguin Bloom movie to Premiere at TIFF

Around a dozen MCTV background extras joined Naomi Watts, Jacki Weaver and Andrew Lincoln from The Walking Dead to film the movie adaptation of Penguin Bloom.  The team behind the production are honoured to have been selected to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
