Rebel to direct ‘The Deb’

October 20, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Rebel Wilson is set to direct her first feature, ‘The Deb’. Set in Australia, it’s a musical “that brings the bush into the city.” Wilson will also co-star in the movie.

‘The Deb’, Wilson explained to Deadline, tells the tale of two young women from different cultures. One’s from the bush and the other’s a cynical city girl. Both are searching for self-acceptance — and a date to the Deb.

Taylah Simpkins, (Natalie Abbott), is the farm girl who hasn’t been schooled in big-city ways, while her cousin Maeve (Charlotte MacInnes) has an attitude problem. Also cast are Tara Morice, Jay Laga’aia and Shane Jacobson.

Wilson has likened the movie’s appeal to that of worldwide Aussie hits ‘Muriel’s Wedding’ and ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’.

The movie will be shot on location in Sydney and rural New South Wales. Rebel has been posting shots of her new Bondi pad for the duration of the shoot.

Submissions have started. Good luck everyone who has been submitted so far. More to come…

‘Wolf Like Me’ Returns

October 19, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Series 2 of ‘Wolf Like Me’, drops tonight (Oct 19) on Stan with all 7 episodes available to watch at once. Filmed in Sydney and starring Isla Fisher and Josh Gad the show has attracted an international audience with its heartwarming and original take on the romantic comedy.

In the second season of ‘Wolf Like Me’, Mary (Isla Fisher) and Gary (Josh Gad) leap into the next phase of their relationship, facing their biggest challenge yet: pregnancy. As much as the two try to have a “normal” pregnancy, it seems impossible with so many questions looming over them.

Congratulations to the 65 MCTV members who worked on this one – it looks great! If you missed Season 1 (including 40 MCTV members), you can still catch up here.

Sony has announced ‘Anyone but You’, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell and filmed in Sydney, will be released on December 22, 2023. The release date change (previously Dec 15) is to make the most of the Christmas holidays worldwide and maximise box-office potential for this expected blockbuster.

The R-rated rom-com follows two people who loathe each other so much — they can’t resist the other. The movie is set in Sydney and follows the two as they go on various vacation hijinks from falling off boats to getting big spiders down their pants.

Congratulations to the 94 MCTV members who worked on this. We can’t wait to get more of a look…

Paid to Disappear

October 13, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

You may of heard of celebrities earning an appearance fee – but did you know that MCTV members often do work that will never be seen?

Stand-ins perform an important role in the film making process. They substitute for the real actor so that the crew can get the lighting and camera setup right while the actor is away from set. The director will often ask stand-ins to deliver the scene dialogue (‘lines’) and walk through (‘blocking’) the scenes to be filmed. This saves lots of money, time and hassle on filming days.

Stand-ins are distinguished from doubles, who replace actors on camera from behind, in makeup, or during dangerous stunts.

Stand-ins do not appear on camera. Stand-ins do not necessarily look like the actor, but they must have the same skin tone, hair color, height and build as the actor so that the lighting in a scene will be set up correctly.

A MCTV member recently scored a role as a stand-in for a lead actor in Stan’s new mystery-thriller ‘Exposure’.

Congratulations to all our MCTV members who have worked as stand-ins – we appreciate your effort even if no-one else will ever get to see it!!

The Dodger Will See You Now…

October 6, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Disney+ has released a teaser trailer for Sydney-filmed series ‘The Artful Dodger’, ahead of its November 29 worldwide release date.

The series imagines a life for Charles Dicken’s character, The Artful Dodger (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), from ‘Oliver Twist’. Set in 1850s Australia, the story follows him as he tries to give up his criminal past and start a new life as a surgeon. However, his old mentor and crook, Fagin (David Thewlis) has other ideas.

Congratulations to the 24 MCTV members who worked on this one in Sydney – can’t wait to watch it.

Film Fund Reinstated

October 3, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Feels like we have been on a rollercoaster the last few weeks…but we are so thrilled that the State Government have reversed their controversial budget decision to cut funding to the local film and TV industry.

The Made in NSW fund, which attracted blockbuster movies such as ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ and ‘The Fall Guy‘ to be made in NSW, was to be cut according to the recent state budget.

According to the government’s own figures, for every dollar spent on the Made in NSW program there is an economic benefit of $20-$21 to NSW. Without the extra support, film projects may be lost to other states (who provide incentives) and with it the expertise of our local film industry.

After industry lobbying, The Made in NSW fund will now continue on existing terms to eligible projects while the government works with industry to develop new initiatives for the screen and digital games sector.

This is a great announcement for the local film and TV industry. We look forward to attracting more big and international projects for NSW under the scheme.

‘Runt’ Announced

October 2, 2023/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Screen Australia recently announced $10m worth of production funding. Included in the funded projects is a movie adaptation of Craig Silvey’s Children’s book ‘Runt’.

Set in the country town of Upson Downs, this family feature film tells the story of ten-year-old Annie Shearer and an adopted stray dog called Runt. The film follows Annie and Runt as they try to save their family’s farm from drought and hardship by winning the Agility Course Championship at the Krumpets Dog Show in London.

Production details are not available, however Screen NSW is a supporting agency.

Sydney has often been used as a stand-in for the London and the UK in movies like ‘Peter Rabbit‘ and ‘3,000 Years of Longing.’ Hoping Sydney might be used in ‘Runt’ also. More to come…

Dragana Gambiroza-Lazic

I’ve been with MCTV for a few years now and found them wonderful. I’ve had a much better experience than with my last agency and am particularly impressed by their management of my daughter through Joey’s

Elizabeth Bouris

Within my first month, I’ve been considered 3 times, got an audition for a TVC, and then a call back. And even a job offer with a leading Bank.
I signed my children with the agency & while I was at the office, Paul gave us a casting for the kids the same afternoon.

M.C.T.V has been very good to me for over three years now! I do appreciate their efforts in finding me work in four major motion pictures and other jobs
