First Look at Amazing Grace

Channel 9 has released a teaser-trailer for new series Amazing Grace, which was filmed in Sydney late last year. Many MCTV people filled extras roles on the production.

Amazing Grace follows midwife Grace who runs a birthing centre attached to a hospital. Her life turns upside down when the baby she gave up for adoption 17 years prior shows up at her clinic heavily pregnant. The teenager gives birth with Grace by her side, making her a grandmother.

Bump Renewed

Hit series Bump has already been renewed for a second season after breaking the record for the biggest ever premiere on Stan. Well done to the 154 MCTV talent who were featured in the series which has been a massive hit with audiences and critics alike.

Lead actress, producer and co- creator Claudia Karvan said of the new series “We all are champing at the bit to get back into the story room and bring these characters to life again. Stan have been the ultimate collaborators and we’re looking forward to working together again.“, you can read the full article here.

Pieces Coming Together

Excitement is building as more cast members for the Netflix production Pieces of Her have been announced. Jessica Barden, David Wenham, Joe Dempsie, Jacob Scipio and Omari Hardwick will join Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote in the 8 episode thriller series based on the 2018 book of the same name.

The production was to be filmed in Canada, but moved to Sydney last year. Collette, Heathcote and Wenham are not the only Australians connected with the series. Executive Producer for the series, Bruna Papandrea (who has a long line of producing credits including Penguin Bloom, The Undoing, Big Little Lies, Gone Girl) is also Australian.  MCTV have submitted many members for extras roles, good luck everyone!

Love and Thunder in the Park

Filming of the latest instalment of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder got underway last week with part of Centennial Park being transformed into an amazing fantasy set to host Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Matt Damon, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt and Christian Bale and many MCTV talent over the coming months.

The movie is expected to boost the local economy by over $150 million and will create around 2,500 jobs. Marvel looks set to film more productions here after the successful filming of Shang-Chi last year . With the global pandemic still affecting movie making around the world, and so many stars in Australia for film projects, it’s looking like a great year ahead for the local industry.

The Park has a long movie history with films such as The Great Gatsby and both Peter Rabbit movies being made there with Sydney locals scoring roles as extras.

We Made It!

Wishing all our fabulous MCTV Members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks for your amazing effort this year, it’s been tough! Because of everyone’s hard work we continue to place more people in more productions than any other agency. Some highlights of 2020 were Back to the Rafters, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Bump, Children of the Corn, Hardball and Three Thousand Years of Longing. We look forward to watching all these productions and a bigger, better and brighter 2021.

Our office will be closed from 18th December to 4th January 2021.

Bump Due New Year’s Day!

Earlier this year over 150 people from MCTV worked on Bump.  The series, about an ambitious and high-achieving teenage girl who has a surprise baby; and the complications that ensue for two families, will premiere on Stan on New Year’s Day. The series stars Claudia Karvan and Angus Sampson as well as fresh faces such as Nathalie Morris, Carlos Sanson Jnr and Catalina Palma. Well done to all our talent, we can’t wait to see it!

New Ad to feature Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg is the latest A-lister to land in Australia, arriving last week for his latest role. This time he’s not shooting a blockbuster movie, but according to the Daily Telegraph a new global ad campaign for online betting agency, Ladbrokes. MCTV has also been submitting for this campaign.

Heartbreak High Returns

One of our biggest jobs in the 1990s was Heartbreak High, a hugely popular drama series that ran for 7 seasons depicting real life at high school in a gritty and honest way. Netflix has just announced that 8 episodes of a new Heartbreak High will be produced next year. Netflix has said the Heartbreak High reboot will be “inspired by” the original series “but totally reimagined for a new generation”.  Scripts are being developed at the moment with filming commencing next year. The show will air in 2022.

The original series is also being screened on Netflix now, some of our long time members might even spot themselves!
