Frayed Series 2 Filming Now

February 25, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

International comedy hit Frayed is currently in production for another season. Frayed aired on ABC TV locally and on Sky in the UK and HBO in the US. Set in 1989, Frayed follows the journey of Sammy Cooper (Sarah Kendall), a fabulously wealthy London housewife who is forced to return to her hometown in Newcastle, Australia. In coming home, Sammy must revisit her past and the events that led her to flee as a teenager years ago. Series 2 continues the story with a cast of “frankly appalling” characters ( as described by the very talented Novacastrian, Kendall, who also created and wrote the show).

The original series featured MCTV extras and more will be featured on the new series, congratulations to all who got roles. The show is due to air sometime later this year.

Thirteen Lives

February 24, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Oscar winning Director Ron Howard will begin filming his new movie Thirteen Lives in Australia next month. The movie is based on the amazing true story of the rescue of a soccer team from a flooded cave, which occurred in Thailand in 2018. Howard is enthusiastic about working in Australia and the local film industry, saying in Variety  last year “From ‘Thirteen Lives’ to the animated project I am directing with Animal Logic [‘The Shrinking of Treehorn’] in Australia, I am excited about the opportunity to film and work in Australia and dramatically expand on that list of collaborators whose sensibilities and work ethic I have long admired and respected.”

We are currently submitting talent for support roles for the production, which will be filmed on the Gold Coast. We wish everyone the best of luck.

Mortal Kombat Trailer Drops

February 23, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

The trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie, which was filmed in Australia and is due for release in April, is out.

A few lucky MCTV members were involved in shooting pick up scenes for the film late last year. A pick-up is a small, relatively minor shot filmed or recorded after the fact to supplement footage already shot. Pick-ups usually address issues with plot, continuity or quality.  These can be close-ups, cutaways, or shots of the same scene from different angles.

Pick-ups can occur after principal photography is complete after sets have been dismantled, costumes stored and cast and crew have moved onto other projects. Because of this, pick-ups will often feature replacement actors and extras (enter MCTV!) to replicate the original footage and provide a seamless transition between the new shots and principal photography.

The trailer contains all the gore and language you’d expect from Mortal Kombat. If appropriate, you can check it out here.

Wild about The Wilds

February 22, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

The Wilds has been renewed for a second series by Amazon after a hugely successful debut in December 2020. The series is the first Young Adult production by Prime and tells the story of a group of teenagers trapped on a deserted island when their plane crashes. The show features iconic Australian actress Rachel Griffiths and up and coming Aussie actresses Mia Healey and Shannon Berry, who were both working outside the film industry when they were booked on the show.

The original series was filmed in New Zealand. Details of filming locations for series 2 have not been released but submissions for supporting roles are happening.  Another amazing opportunity to participate in the booming industry. Best of luck to everyone who has been submitted!!!

The Tourist

February 19, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Submissions have been taking place for Stan’s latest Aussie filmed series, The Tourist, which stars Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey and The Fall) and Hugo Weaving, tells the story of a man who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive. Except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

Although the series is being filmed in South Australia, we are submitting for supporting roles. Good luck to everyone.

Carmen in Sydney

February 18, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Filming on the modern musical reimagining of  Carmen has commenced. Stars Paul Mescal (Normal People) and Melissa Barrera have been spotted in Sydney and remote country NSW locations, which will represent America and Mexico on the big screen. The movie follows Carmen as she is forced to flee her Mexican border village into America. Aidan, a broken ex-marine, is guarding the border with other volunteers, but ends up protecting Carmen and the two flee, one a criminal and one an illegal immigrant. The plot twists and turns and has love and race at it’s core. Read the full movie outline here.

The range of productions filming in Sydney shows the versatility of our City as a location. We have been very busy trying to fill extras roles with a wide range of looks to match the settings and stories of the many international and local productions now using Sydney as a base. If you would like to get involved apply here.

Drover’s Wife set to Premiere at SXSW

February 17, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

We’re very excited! In October 2019 MCTV members were booked on Leah Purcell’s highly anticipated film adaptation of a Henry Lawson short story. The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson is now complete and has been selected for the prestigious South By South West (SXSW) film festival to be held online and in Austin, Texas in March. Holding the international premiere in Texas seems oddly appropriate as the movie has been described as “A searing Australian Snowy Mountains revenge Western“.

The movie is set in the Snowy Mountains in 1893, and centres on the heavily pregnant Molly Johnson and her children, who struggle in isolation to survive the harsh Australian landscape after her husband leaves to go droving sheep in the high country. It is Leah Purcell’s directorial debut and she also wrote and performs in the film, having previously written highly awarded play and book adaptations of the story.

Congratulations to all involved on being selected – we cannot wait to see it!

More Details on Three Thousand Years

February 12, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

As filming continues, more details on the  George Miller epic Three Thousand Years of Longing are emerging. Star Tilda Swinton has been spotted leaving a trailer in Sydney’s northern suburbs.

The plot of the $60 million dollar blockbuster has not been fully revealed, however Screen Australia reports the movie “tells the story of a lonely and bitter British woman who discovers an ancient bottle while on a trip to Istanbul and unleashes a Djinn who offers her three wishes. Filled with apathy, she is unable to come up with one until his stories spark in her a desire to be loved“. Always secretive director, Australian George Miller, has intriguingly described the film as an “anti-Mad Max”.  One thing is sure, with Miller at the helm the movie is sure to be epic!
