What happens Next? After the Verdict…

November 16, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

To catch a killer, four everyday people go beyond the call of jury duty in Nine’s gripping new drama series ‘After The Verdict’, with major production investment from Screen Australia. The series stars Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom, Strike Back, Blindspot), Magda Szubanski (Kath & Kim, Babe, Happy Feet) and Lincoln Younes (Doctor Doctor, Grand Hotel, Tangle).

‘After The Verdict’ tells the story of four very different Australians who have just finished jury duty on a high-profile murder trial. As they return to normal life, they begin to question their verdict and take matters into their own hands, investigating the murder themselves as they juggle the pressures and impacts on their personal lives.

Submissions for ‘After the Verdict’ have started, good luck to everyone who has been submitted!

Can’t Get Enough of the Baddies!

November 15, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Seems Sydney can’t get enough of true crime stories, with submissions underway for the latest in the Underbelly franchise – ‘Underbelly: Vanishing Act‘.

The series will follow the recent real life Sydney story of Melissa Caddick, the high-roller who allegedly embezzled over $40 million before disappearing from the Eastern suburbs in 2020.

A fantastic cast has been announced for the series including Kate Atkinson (Wentworth, Jack Irish, SeaChange) as Melissa Caddick, Colin Friels (Water Rats, BlackJack, Mystery Road), Tai Hara (Madam Secretary, Home and Away, Hyde & Seek), Maya Stange (Love Child, A Place to Call Home, Rake), Ursula Mills (Out of the Blue), and Sophie Bloom (Love Child, Amazing Grace).

Best of luck to all those submitted.

Latest TVC Submissions

November 13, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Plenty of submissions happening for new advertising campaigns. Recently we have been submitting for the following organisations; McDonald’s, NSW Government, Choosi, Specsavers, Clubs NSW, A-League.

Work can be for TVCs, online campaigns, print campaigns or a combination of all three. Big or small advertising jobs pay well and usually have a short shoot and production time so they can fit in easily around other commitments and you get to see the results more quickly than with film and TV.

Good Luck to everyone who has been submitted so far!

Jury Duty you will Like!

November 12, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

‘The Twelve’ is a 10 x one-hour crime drama, based on the Belgian series of the same name, commissioned by Foxtel Originals. The show is a gripping courtroom drama that tells the story of 12 ordinary Australians who are selected for jury duty in a murder trial as traumatising as it is controversial, in which a woman stands accused of killing a child.  The writing team for The Twelve features a stellar line-up including Leah Purcell.

The show will be produced in partnership with Warner Bros. International Television Australia and Spirit Pictures. As reported by Mediaweek when the show was first announced,  Brian Walsh, executive director of television, said: “Foxtel is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to local content with the announcement of this new drama series, The Twelve.

“In one of the most challenging of times for our industry there has never been a more important moment to consolidate our energies, talent and passion, and reaffirm our commitment to local drama. We have been looking for the ideal vehicle to replace our popular series, Wentworth, and we have every confidence that ‘The Twelve’ will continue the tradition of bringing gripping Australian drama to the screen.

We have been submitting for this exciting new production. Best of luck to everyone who has been submitted so far!

Can you keep a Secret?

November 9, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

The Clooneys and Julia have flown North for the Summer…but we have been too busy submitting for Sydney productions to notice!! We can’t tell you too much yet, as film and TV productions and advertising shoots are subject to strict confidentiality clauses, but exciting things are happening.

When we book you for a job it is expected that you don’t tell anyone about what you see or do to avoid ‘spoiling’. Likewise, you will more than likely be asked not to film or take photographs of the production. Once the production is released, then you are free to brag away!

So while we can’t always say what we’re working on, we can say that big projects are coming to Sydney over Summer. If you’d like to be a part of them, you can find out how here.

More Names on Lost Flowers

October 29, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

More big Aussie names have been dropped as part of Amazon’s upcoming series ‘The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’. With IF Magazine reporting Asher Keddie, Leah Purcell and Alycia Debnam-Carey joining Sigourney Weaver as part of the cast.

Produced by Made Up Stories, Amazon Studios and Endeavor Content, and based on the novel by Holly Ringwald, the 7 part series is a coming-of-age drama about a young girl whose violent childhood casts a dark shadow over her adult life.

Following a family tragedy in which she loses both her abusive father and beloved mother in a mysterious fire, nine-year-old Alice is taken to live with her grandmother June on a flower farm, where she learns that there are secrets within secrets about her and her family’s past.

Debnam Carey will play the adult Alice Hart, while Sigourney Weaver will play her grandmother, June. Keddie plays Sally Morgan while Purcell is Twig.

Also starring are Frankie Adams, Alexander England, Charlie Vickers, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, and Alyla Browne as a young Alice Hart.

Well done to everyone from MCTV who has worked on this so far!

‘Here out West’ to open Festival

October 28, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Groundbreaking Sydney movie ‘Here out West’ will open the 68th Sydney Film Festival on November 3 at the State Theatre.

The film intertwines stories from eight talented Western Sydney writers to explore themes such as assimilation, racism, aspiration and family. The film beautifully and authentically captures the richness and complexity of a modern Australian community.

The movie starts with Nancy visiting her daughter, who has just given birth in hospital. The grandchild is to be taken away by the authorities, and in an impetuous decision, Nancy steals the baby and flees the hospital. Over the course of a dramatic day, Nancy’s flight sets off a chain of events that brings together complete strangers.

Nisrine Amine, Bina Bhattacharya, Matias Bolla, Claire Cao, Arka Das, Dee Dogan, Vonne Patiag and Tien Tran are emerging writers and creatives from Western Sydney. They were selected via a highly competitive process to develop their screenplays for ‘Here Out West’. Directors Fadia Abboud, Lucy Gaffy, Julie Kalceff, Ana Kokkinos and Leah Purcell joined the creative collaboration to bring the writers’ unique stories to the screen.

Big congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this to the screen. Tickets for opening night have sold out, but the Sydney Film Festival runs until 21 November and has a full program of great movies and film related events.

Bump adopted by the US

October 22, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Stan’s hit series ‘Bump’ has been bought by The CW Network (a CBS/Warner joint venture) for distribution in the US, Canada and Mexico, as reported by Deadline.

Series 1 of the show, which follows a high achieving student who falls pregnant while at high school, was a massive hit locally. Series 2 of Bump is in production and Series 3 is in the works for filming in 2022. A multi-generational drama spin off of the show called ‘Year Of’ has also been greenlit.

Sounds like a great new Aussie franchise has been born! Congratulations to the 154 MCTV people who will now be seen on US TV screens. If you missed it, you can catch up on Series 1 here.

New Stories for Sydney

October 21, 2021/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

A spin-off of HBO’s ‘High Maintenance’, starring Yael Stone, and comedic crime series ‘The Pastor’s Wife’ from Jungle Entertainment (Wakefield, Mr Inbetween) are among the 21 projects that will share in more than $600,000 in story development funding from Screen Australia.

The Sydney based stories include:

  • ‘Beth’ (working title): A spin-off from the HBO series High Maintenance. ‘Beth’ will follow the feisty, freewheeling thirty-something dog walker (played by Yael Stone), who has just returned to Sydney after 10 wild years in New York. This comedy is created by Alex White (Babyteeth) and is to be executive produced by the original creators of ‘High Maintenance’, Katja Blichfeld, Ben Sinclair and Russell Gregory.
  • ‘Khana’: The debut feature film written by Arka Das, one of the writers of anthology feature film Here Out West, which is set to open Sydney Film Festival 2021. ‘Khana’ follows young migrant worker Ronny who clocks long hours as a dish-pig at an Indian restaurant in Sydney’s Western suburbs. When the opportunity arises to achieve his dream of becoming a chef, he feels his life is about to change. However, Ronny quickly finds his dream has become a prison and he is drawn into the dark underworld of indentured labour where freedom comes at a hefty price.
  • ‘The Pastor’s Wife’: An eight-part comedic-crime television series that follows a usually meek and mild-mannered pastor’s wife and a rat-bag teen who together go down a rabbit-hole of some seriously ungodly behaviour, in order to get away with murder.

All great projects, fingers crossed the funding will help them get to production. More to come…
