Now Shooting ‘The Messenger’

June 10, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Production has started on ABC’s adaptation of Markus Zusak’s book ‘The Messenger’. The 8×1 hour series is being shot in Sydney and the Blue Mountains and features a cast of emerging Australian talent who are backed by an award-winning creative team. Starring in the series is William McKenna (‘Nowhere Boys’), with Maggie Dence (‘Rake‘), Alexandra Jensen (‘Frayed‘, ‘Amazing Grace‘), Chris Alosio (‘Troppo’) and actor, singer and songwriter Kartanya Maynard (‘Deadloch’).

The series follows Ed Kennedy whose life changes forever when he stops an armed robbery and becomes an accidental hero.  The next day, he starts getting messages… Four playing cards – the ace of diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts. Each with their own set of tasks. Who’s sending them? And what the hell is a hopeless, cab-driving, guy like Ed meant to do with them? Ed has been chosen to care. He stumbles this mysterious path, helping and hurting, completing the cards, until he comes to see the real message has been for him. Being The Messenger has brought Ed back to life.

Plenty of MCTV people being submitted and sent to set for this one. Good luck everyone! You can read more about the series here.

‘6 Festivals’ is set to have its worldwide premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on Friday night, before it streams on Paramount+ later this year.

The movie is the first Paramount+ film produced in Australia and was shot at real music festivals around the country. A huge crew of Australian artists – among them G Flip, Dune Rats, Alison Wonderland, Bliss N Eso, Peking Duk, Ruby Fields and Jerome Farah – appear in the film or on the soundtrack.

At the time of writing there are still tickets for tomorrow’s premiere, otherwise there are limited screenings over the weekend.

Real King visits Last King of the X

June 8, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

It was a case of “Will the real John Ibrahim please stand up?” when the real life Mr Ibrahim visited his on screen version, Lincoln Younes on set this week.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Ibrahim was ‘very particular’ about the actor chosen to play him in the 10 part fictionalised series. The report says Ibrahim ‘was impressed with Lincoln’s acting ability and his similarly dark complexion and light eyes.’

Heaps of MCTV members have already been on set for this one and still being sent daily. Can’t wait to see the finished result!!

Disney+ pledge Aussie Originals

June 1, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Nine new Aussie originals, including three scripted dramas commissioned for Disney+ have been announced in Sydney by The Walt Disney Company.

‘Last Days of the Space Age’, is an eight-part dramedy series to be filmed in Sydney and WA and set in Western Australia in 1979. A power strike threatens to plunge the region into darkness, while the city hosts the iconic Miss Universe pageant and the US space station, Skylab, crashes just beyond the city’s suburbs. The cast includes Radha Mitchell, Jesse Spencer, Deborah Mailman, and Linh-Dan Pham. Submissions have been happening for this one.

Jeffrey Walker (Director of ‘Young Rock’, ‘Lambs of God‘, ‘The Commons‘) will direct ‘The Artful Dodger’, a character drama set in 1850s Australia that picks up 15 years after the events of Charles Dickens’s ‘Oliver Twist’. Across eight episodes, the scripted series explores the adult double life of Dickens’ famous prince of thieves, now a surgeon, as he tries to shake his predilection for crime. No details yet on where filming will take place but locations in NSW and Victoria are being considered.

Great to see more local content being made. More to come…

Tim Roth joins Last King of the Cross

May 27, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Ian McShane has sadly had to withdraw from ‘Last King of the Cross’ due to health reasons. Helium Pictures have announced that Academy award nominee, and serial ‘bad guy’ Tim Roth will now play the role of Ezra Shipman, the underworld boss who tutors John Ibrahim (Lincoln Younes) to continue his legacy.

Mark Fennessy, producer/executive producer said: “It’s unfortunate that Ian is unable to join us and we wish him a speedy recovery. We are truly delighted that the super brilliant Tim Roth joins our cast as Ezra and cannot wait to see him breathe life into yet another unforgettable character.”

Production is well underway with lots of submissions and many MCTV members having already paid a paid visit to the set! More details of the production can be found here.

More to come on this one…

May 26, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV
