$12m for ‘Total Control’ Series 3 and more…

September 20, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Screen Australia recently announced $12 million of production funding for locally made productions. Series 3 of ‘Total Control’ was one of the titles included in the funding announcement. This is great news as MCTV provided over 60 talented members to Series 1 and 2.

Three movies; ‘Addition’, ‘Little Bird’ and ‘Went up the Hill’ have also been funded. Locations have not been announced as yet.

Two TV series will also receive funding. ‘While the Men are Away’ is an 8 part historical dramedy for SBS set in 1940’s rural Australia. ‘North Shore’ is a six-part crime thriller set around Sydney Harbour, directed by Gregor Jordan (Two Hands) and with additional funding support from Screen NSW.

You can read more about these exciting projects here.

Christmas comes to Homebush

September 13, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Filming has commenced in Homebush, NSW on the brand new Stan original film ‘Christmas Ransom’, starring comedian Matt Okine and TV Week Logie Award-winner Miranda Tapsell.

‘Christmas Ransom’ is a riotous comedy-adventure inspired by family favourites such as ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Elf’, packed with heart and hijinks.

When beloved toy store, Harrington and Sons, is hijacked on Christmas Eve by a pair of bumbling criminals and the struggling owner (Okine) held for ransom, a pair of shoplifting kids stumble into the heist, where they are forced to team up with a heavily pregnant security officer (Tapsell) to save Christmas for everyone.

The film will also star Ed Oxenbould, Genevieve Lemon, Bridie McKim, and young stars Evan Stanhope, Tahlia Sturzaker, and Chai Hansen.

Congratulations to everyone from MCTV who has visited set already. Can’t wait for the premiere this festive season on Stan.

Garner Checks out of Australia

September 10, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

‘The Royal Hotel’ is a new thriller from Aussie director, Kitty Green. It stars Julia Garner (‘Ozarks’, ‘The Assistant’), Hugo Weaving and Jessica Henwick (‘The Matrix Resurections’). Green previously directed Garner in ‘The Assistant’ to critical acclaim.

The movie is largely set in South Australia and tells the story of two backpackers Hanna (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) who are best friends. After they run out of money, Liv convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called ‘The Royal Hotel’ in a remote Outback mining town. Soon Hanna and Liv find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.

The majority of filming has been taking place in SA over the last month or so. Julia Garner left Australia late last week, with a ‘Bye’ on Instagram. Produced by See-Saw films (‘Lion’, ‘Animal Kingdon’ and ‘The Power of the Dog’), US rights to the movie have already been awarded to NEON. It seems this film will be another Aussie success story.

‘Year Of’ Submissions Start

September 3, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Submissions have been happening for ‘Year Of’, Stan’s spin-off series from the hugely popular ‘Bump’.

‘Year Of’ is set in and around the senior years of high school – exploring the transitional time between childhood and adulthood for the kids and the renegotiations with adults that it brings. Young love and angst, humour and tragedy, rub against each other in a powerful mix.

Roadshow Rough Diamond’s Dan and John Edwards are working alongside a talented writing team which includes Jessica Tuckwell and Kelsey Munro on the series. Cast details haven’t been released yet but fans will be hoping that Claudia Karvan, Nathalie Morris, Carlos Sanson Jnr and the rest will return in this series.

Good luck to everyone who has been submitted so far!! If you missed ‘Bump’ you can catch up on Series 2 here. More to come…

Video helps the Radio Stars

August 30, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

2Day FM has launched phase two of its successful ‘A Better Today’ campaign featuring an all-dancing, sequined 90s fantasy, set in a local Chinese restaurant.

The ad features a not-so regular family dinner, where the Mum is transported by a Mariah Carey song. Upon hearing ‘Fantasy’, she turns into a 90s tabletop dancing diva, complete with dance troupe, sequins and disco light show as she embraces her love of 90s music.

Not even the arrival of bemused 2Day FM Breakfast hosts Dave ‘Hughesy’, Erin Molan and Ed Kavalee can break her stride when they arrive for dinner at the same restaurant.

The ad was filmed at an iconic Western Sydney Chinese restaurant and features the restaurant’s own maitre D’, plus local Sydney dancers ‘The Champ Fam’, a real family who star in the commercial. The campaign will run in cinema, TV, and across a range of digital and social media.

Congratulations to the 9 MCTV members who worked on this one – some great dance moves in the background – well done!!

Campbelltown to Star

August 28, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

‘From All Sides’ is a new feature film set in Campbelltown in Sydney’s south-west. The movie, from local writer Bina Bhattacharya (‘Here out West‘) is due to start production here in Sydney, in November. The movie will star Max Brown and Monique Kalmar (‘Heartbreak High‘, ‘Bump‘) as husband and wife.

The story follows a middle-aged Indian-Australian woman Anoushka (Kalmar) whose former life as a professional dancer resurfaces, challenging each member of her multi-racial family and exploriong themes of race relations, class tension, and sexuality.

Great to see local Sydney stories and writers coming into their own. Screen Australia assisted ‘Here out West’ with production funding and it’s great to see another local project out of this initiative. You can read more about this upcoming production here.

Quiet on Set…shhhh

August 26, 2022/in Acting and Extras Work in Sydney /by MCTV

Filming on Mad Max prequel, ‘Furiosa’, is well underway in Sydney and is delivering on its promise to boost the local economy and be the biggest movie ever filmed in Australia, with hundreds of local cast and crew working hard to create the movie.

While notoriously secretive Director, George Miller, tries to keep the production under wraps, the paparazzi are working hard to sneak a peek. Thank you to all our wonderful MCTV extras who are known in the industry for their diligence and discretion.

Don’t forget the golden rules of being an extra:

1. Read any instructions carefully and double check for last minute changes before heading to set.

2. Be on time and follow orders. Film sets are busy and complex and rely on everyone cooperating.

3. Don’t take photos or share details of costumes, sets or the production.

4. Enjoy the experience and have FUN!!

I signed up with MCTV yesterday and they applied me for 5 jobs already, one of which was successful. So excited to be back in business after long break. Looking forward working with you guys!

Dragana Gambiroza-Lazic

I’ve been with MCTV for a few years now and found them wonderful. I’ve had a much better experience than with my last agency and am particularly impressed by their management of my daughter through Joey’s

Elizabeth Bouris

Within my first month, I’ve been considered 3 times, got an audition for a TVC, and then a call back. And even a job offer with a leading Bank.
I signed my children with the agency & while I was at the office, Paul gave us a casting for the kids the same afternoon.

See Myshell

M.C.T.V has been very good to me for over three years now! I do appreciate their efforts in finding me work in four major motion pictures and other jobs
