Loads of excitement last week when a new GMC Hummer EV landed on the dock in Sydney. Rumours swirled until Drive finally revealed the car is here to play a role in ‘The Fall Guy’, alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

Gosling will play the main character Colt Seavers – a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter.

Seavers famously drove a GMC in the original series, reportedly jumping his pick-up some 33 times during the series, and destroying a number of vehicles behind-the-scenes before a mid-engine stunt car was built for the job.

Look out for it if you head to set!

More blockbuster news with the announcement that ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ has started filming in Sydney. The film is expected to provide more than 400 local jobs and inject $128 million AUD ($80 million) into the Australian economy.

‘Planet of the Apes’ is one of 20th Century Studios’ most popular and enduring franchises, amassing more than $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. According to Deadline, the movie is being shot the newly renamed Disney Studios Australia (formerly Fox Studios) and will be directed by Wes Ball (‘Maze Runner’). Cast members so far are Owen Teague (‘It’), Freya Allen and Peter Macon (‘The Orville’).

The movie is slated for release in 2024. Good luck to everyone submitted so far!

‘Queen of Oz’ is a 6-part, 30-minute comedy show to be filmed in Sydney, commissioned by the BBC in the UK and ABC locally. Starring Catherine Tate (pictured) it sees the King abdicate his Aussie throne and install his wayward royal daughter.

Princess Georgiana (Tate) is the black sheep of a fictional British Royal Family. A PR disaster, she’s spent her spoilt, party-girl life plastered over the tabloids. On the back of her latest scandal her father, the King, makes the unprecedented move of abdicating his Australian throne in favour of his daughter. It is hoped that giving her some real responsibility will finally be the making of her – and if it isn’t, at least shipping her off keeps her 10,000 miles away from London.

Accompanied by a useless entourage, Queen Georgiana of Australia goes kicking and screaming to a country she has zero interest in beyond the Hemsworth Brothers!

‘Hardball’ is up for another International Emmy following a win for Series 1 in 2020. Set in Western Sydney, the series follows Mikey (Semisi Cheekam) and his mates as they navigate school and handball championships.

Co-executive producer, Catherine Nebauer said “Our incredible cast and crew at Northern Pictures are so proud of the Hardball series which consistently touches the lives of kids and families worldwide”. The International Emmy Awards Gala will be held on November 21 in New York City.

Congratulations on being nominated to everyone involved with the production, especially the 35 MCTV extras who worked on Series 2. Fingers crossed for another win!!

Netflix’s reboot of ‘Heartbreak High’ has made a stunning international debut, ranking in the global top 10 most watched shows for the streaming platform. In Australia, it was the most watched show barely a week after its debut.

The Sydney Morning Herald is claiming a win for locally produced content and we hope that the success of programs like Heartbreak High will encourage more locally made content.
