Hammond Care Web Shoot

Congratulations to Gabriel P, Deborah L and Margie B who all worked on this shoot for Hammond Care’s website. We send heaps of people every week for a variety of work including still photos for websites, print and social media campaigns, TV commercials as well as TV series and movies, of course.

Potato Race in Production

Production has commenced on ‘The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race’, both in Sydney and the picturesque villages of the Southern Highlands of NSW for Paramout+.

Based on the play of the same name and inspired by real events, it tells the story of Penny Anderson, who returns to her childhood home just in time for the Appleton Show and its ‘world famous’ potato race. She is outraged that the men’s first prize pays out $2,000 and the winning woman’s prize is only $200!  Determined to right this wrong, she unleashes a cultural war the likes never seen in sleepy Appleton – pitting family against family, sister against sister and potato racer against potato racer.

Claire van der Boom leads the cast as Penny (pictured), with Katie Wal, Genevieve Lemon, Tiriel Mora and Robyn Nevin also starring.

Producer Andrea Keir said: “‘The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race’ what a title! Melanie (Tait) has written a joyful and charming script set in a luscious country village nestled in rolling green hills. It will be impossible for viewers to resist when it lands on Paramount+.”

‘The Artful Dodger’ in Production

‘The Artful Dodger’ has commenced production in Sydney. The eight part series finds the character from ‘Oliver Twist’ 15 years after the events of that story, in 1850s Australia. He is now a surgeon who can’t shake his criminal tendencies.

A huge international and Aussie cast has been assembled for the series. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, pictured, (‘The Queen’s Gambit’) leads the production as Jack Dawkins (aka the Artful Dodger). David Thewlis (‘Landscapers’ and ‘Fargo’) will take the role of Fagin and Aussie Maia Mitchell (‘Good Trouble’) will be Lady Belle Fox.

Australian talent will also feature in the series, including Damon Herriman, Miranda Tapsell, Tim Minchin, Susie Porter (‘Wentworth‘), Kym Gyngell, Damien Garvey, Jessica De Gouw (‘The Secrets She Keeps‘), Andrea Demetriades, Luke Carroll and Huw Higginson (‘Total Control‘).

Jeffrey Walker (‘Modern Family’) is the set-up director and co-executive producer, with Corrie Chen and Gracie Otto (‘Heartbreak High‘) directing.

Good luck to everyone submitted so far. This is going to be an amazing series.

‘Home and Away’ Season 36!!

Channel 7 has announced iconic Aussie series ‘Home and Away’ will be back on air on January 9 next year. This will be the 36th season of the show, which has been running since 1998 and attracted fans around the world.

The teaser trailer for the new series features the classic Sydney beaches scenery and familiar faces we’re used to along with some explosive action.

Congratulations to the 20 MCTV extras who worked on this season. So great to be part of one of Aussie TVs national treasures.

ABC Upfronts

One of Australia’s most loved sitcoms will be rebooted as part of the ABCs offerings for 2023. ‘Mother and Son’, which ran for 6 series from 1984 to 1994 and followed the sweet, frustrating and hilarious action of caring for an ageing mother, is to be reimagined with Matt Okine and Denise Scott.

Okine and Scott do a great job of outlining the new show in this video.You can also read more about plans for the show here.

No locations have been announced yet, however the show is supported by Screen NSW it seems likely it will be filmed in Sydney, like the original. More to come on this one…

Other 2023 ABC programs include the previously announced ‘The Messenger‘, ‘House of Gods’ and season 2 of ‘The Newsreader’. You can read more about what’s coming in the year ahead here.

Colin on the red carpet

Real life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammal looked great twinning on the red carpet this week celebrating the premiere of their new romantic comedy series, ‘Colin from Accounts’.

Binge Executive Director Alison Hurbert-Burns shared during a Q&A onstage with the cast that ‘Colin From Accounts’ has been selling up a storm internationally, with help from distributor CBS. It’s so encouraging that so much locally produced content is finding a worldwide audience.

Congratulations to the 64 members who worked on this one. The show will premiere on Binge on December 1.

Blunt Arrives for ‘The Fall Guy’

More excitement at Sydney Airport yesterday, as Emily Blunt arrived to start work on ‘The Fall Guy’ with Ryan Gosling. Blunt arrived with actor husband John Krasinski and kids in tow. You can check out more at The Daily Mail.

The production is well underway, still plenty roles and submissions happening. Hope everyone who has been on set so far has had fun. Thank you for all your hard work.

Aussie Industry Booming

Australia’s production boom grew to a record A$2.29bn spent on drama features and series in the year to June 2022.

New South Wales set a new record of spend in the state, with over $1 billion and 45% of the national share. These figures do not include current big budget projects such as ‘Planet of the Apes‘ and ‘The Fall Guy‘, that will be captured in next years report.

According to Screen Australia’s, ‘Drama Report‘, a record $977m (A$1.51bn) was spent on Australian titles and $503m (A$777) on international productions during the 12-month period from 2021-2022.

With ongoing government support, streamers demand for original content and the low Aussie dollar it’s a great time to be part of the industry.

‘North Shore’ Underway

Filming has started on ‘North Shore’ in Sydney. Starring in the six-part crime thriller series are English actors John Bradley and Joanne Froggatt (‘The Commons‘) who will be joined by Kirsty Sturgess, Dan Spielman, Rob Carlton, and Matt Passmore (‘Frayed‘). Rhys Muldoon, Claire Lovering (‘Class of ’07‘), and Chris Alosio have also scored roles.

Funded by Screen Australia and Screen NSW, the mini-series centres on a clash of cultures between a group of British and Australian detectives who team up to solve a complex murder mystery against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour and uncover a conspiracy with international political consequences.

Paramount ANZ senior vice president for content and programming, Daniel Monaghan, expected North Shore to be “another gleaming example of great television that can be created right here in our own backyard”. Hear, hear!

More Cast to ‘The Fall Guy’

More announcements on Sydney blockbuster ‘The Fall Guy’, with Hannah Waddingham (‘Ted Lasso’) and Stephanie Hsu (‘The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’) being the latest to join the star studded cast.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie departs from the original 1980s show of the same name. In the new script, a battered and past-his-prime stuntman (Gosling) finds himself back on a movie with the star (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) for whom he doubled long ago and who replaced him. Drama unfolds on the production when the star goes missing.

Waddingham will play the producer of the movie, Hsu will play the assistant to the movie star, with Emily Blunt as a prosthetic artist with a romantic past with the stuntman. The movie is being directed by David Leitch (‘Bullet Train’). You can check out some set photos of a blonde Aaron Taylor- Johnson here.
